Accessing error message in API 5.*
I see that the API version 6 will have GMT_Error_Message() to access the last error string, huzzah! Is there any way (even a hacky workaround) to get the same in version 5 of the API? I see in the docs various references to "pass an error code via API→error", but API is a void* of course.
"Upgrade to 6" is not an option, my target is Debian/Ubuntu stable which have 5.2.
Thanks in advance!

I think the best you can do may be to send all error messages to a log file instead and get information from that. However, no guarantees this will work properly in 5.2.1. I have discussed updates with the Ubuntu maintainers and that what they try to achieve (stable) is not helped by using 5.2.1 instead of 5.4.3, for instance, but nothing can be done.

Thanks Paul, I had suspected this was the case. Not a big problem, I can continue to capture stdout/stderr pending v6 landing.
