UPDATE TWO

GMT 5.4.1 was released on May 9th, 2017. For the workshop we will use any GMT version from 5.4.1 and up, i.e., building from source via svn gives you what we call 5.5 (unreleased). We will work with various data sets during the short course and as a backup I will provide those locally using USB sticks in case Wi-Fi proves unsatisfactory.

UPDATE ONE

This one-day workshop will introduce GMT to new users or reintroduce it to users with prior GMT experience. We will use GMT version 5 for this workshop. Participants must bring their own laptops and install GMT 5 prior to the start of the workshop. Detailed instructions for how to do this will be posted closer to the meeting (April) as we will want to use the latest version (we expect to release an update before the GSA meeting). If you cannot wait then follow our instructions on the GMT wiki called Building GMT from source.

GMT is normally used in a UNIX-like environment. Given the limited time we will focus on using GMT in the bash shell, but we will also demonstrate the new GMT/MATLAB toolbox. Users with prior experience with other UNIX shells, e.g., csh, tcsh, are welcome to use those shells but workshop instructions and examples will be tailored for bash.

There are four types of laptop setups that will be acceptable for this workshop:
