When plotting e.g. shotpoints, you would typically want to plot the first point (-Ef), last point (-El) and a nice interval in between (-Em200). Giving just an -E will plot first and last point. There should be an option to do all this in one command.

gmt convert -E shotpoints.gmt > sp_annot.gmt
gmt convert -Em200 shotpoints.gmt >> sp_annot.gmt

Suggestion - allow a combination of -E (or -Ef / -El) and -Em:

gmt convert -Eflm200 shotpoints.gmt > sp_annot.gmt

OK, that is a good extension. I will think about how to implement it, but it is easily done.

Done. Use -EM<stride> which unlike -Em also includes the last record. In r18324 (trunk).

Tested and works. About an hour from suggestion to implementation - I'm speechless.

Great Paul - thank you!

Well, sometimes we get sidetracked by email or students and that slows me down a bit!
