Description

Must be I'm doing something obviously wrong...

The input file is a CGIAR v4.1, 214MB ascii file with, I think, "1 row per row"; in other words there are 6001 ascii numbers per row, repeated for 6001 lines. That is a very long line, but works fine in GMT4.

GMT4

$ /opt/local/bin/gmt4 xyz2grd -R-170/-165/50/55 -I3c -ZTLA -H6 -N-9999 srtm_03_02.asc -Gsrtm_03_02.grd
xyz2grd: Given domain implies x_inc = 0.000833333
xyz2grd: Given domain implies y_inc = 0.000833333
xyz2grd: nx = 6001 ny = 6001
xyz2grd: Working on file srtm_03_02.asc

GMT5, with and without the change of -I3c to -I3s, and -H to -h, fails

$ /opt/local/bin/gmt xyz2grd -R-170/-165/50/55 -I3s -ZTLA -h6 -N-9999 srtm_03_02.asc -Gsrtm_03_02.grd

I think the arc info ascii grid format is directly supported in GMT5 so you can just use grdreformat instead.
