Description

Hi, Paul,

Thank you very much for the previous help!

In installation of GMT5SAR, at the steps 5) on "http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/projects/gmt5sar/wiki"
$ cd GMT5SAR ## why the source codes are downloaded to "/usr/local/GMT5SAR" because they are no longer useful after installation?
$ autoconf ## there is no script "autoconf" in that directory, what to do?
$ ./configure --with-orbits-dir=/usr/local/orbits ## there is no script "configure" in that directory, what to do?

I do not run the following "make" and "make install" command.

Hi, Paul,

I just know that "autoConf" is another software for Linux-like OS, and know how to store the downloaded GMT5SAR source code to a desired directory:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install autoconf
$ cd ~/Downloads
$ svn checkout svn://gmtserver.soest.hawaii.edu/GMT5SAR/branches/5.1 GMT5SAR-5.1
$ cd ~/Downloads/GMT5SAR-5.1
$ autoconf

autom4te: cannot create autom4te.cache: No such file or directory

I do not know what the above message means, I get same error after update the "m4" software:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install m4

Please help!

Sounds like you are running those commands in a directory you do not have permission to create files in.

Hi, Paul,

I am new to Linux-like OS, and do not understand its security mechanism, such as you mentioned "not have permission to create files in" somewhere, although I "sudo" as the root. I do not know what to do here.

Then I try to install GMT4SAR instead of GMT5SAR and find a detailed instructions "INSTALL_GMTSAR_UBUNTU.txt"( attached ) in the downloaded and un-tared "GMTSAT.tar" file from "http://topex.ucsd.edu/gmtsar/downloads/". All steps work OK, but at the last "make -f Makefile_all_preproc" step, it says "grdfile_util.c:13:18: fatal error: gmt.h: No such file or directory". Can you check the attached "errMsg2.txt" file and tell me what to do?

Thank you for the help!

Ning.
